Fun with the wet brush in Procreate. Still taking too long, but less painful today. Kind of reminds me of a mature Captain Caveman. Mixed with Citizen Smith. Discuss.

Day 89 - Spaghetti Mouth
Procreate again, and trying to paint. I like the look of the paint strokes, but I think it's going to take a while to get to grip with it. This took way too long to do, almost 3 hours. Oi. Here's to getting faster.

Day 88 - Ugly Mug
I downloaded Procreate for the iPad this morning (£2.99, a crazy good price), and am so far digging what I'm seeing. Seems like there's a lot more to work with than sketchbook pro, and it all feels intuitive. Anyway, playing around exploring led me to this doodle, which evidently needs more time to look decent, but was interesting to do to at this loose a level. I'll stay exploring in procreate and see how it develops.

Day 86 - P722
Ships, vehicles - I've never actually attempted one before, other than post-it note doodles. So, after being inspired by a Scott Robertson YouTube demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZlpcrpA5u0&feature=youtube_gdata_player), I gave it a crack, based heavily on the memory of what I'd seen him do (design and methodology). It's pretty awful, but was interesting to try something different.

Day 85 - Commuter no.4
Don't like this. Not one bit. So many things wrong with it that I dont know where to start. But here it is anyway.

Day 84 - Socialite
The train commute home tonight was a toxic wasteland of shitty drawings abandoned to the God of Shite Sketches. Two stops from home, this lady started to appear, and now I rather like her. Kind of Jessica Rabbit in flavour, at least with her choice of wardrobe, but snobby enough that I doubt she'd look at Roger twice.

Day 82 - Scary Doll
Zadie made this very cool doll last night, so I decided to study it as my daily piece. In the process, the image became a little darker in tone than I think the doll was originally to be ...

Day 81 - Dirty Bird
Should have spent more time on value and local colour ...
And a close-up because my ipad2 spits out such lores images it's hard to see anything:

Day 79 - Red Head
That Symmetry thing got it's hooks in me
Pulled up deep, won't let go you see.
'it'll rob you baby, become a crutch'
Don't think it will.
Nah.
I thank you.

Day 75 - Tefal Head
Traditional quick paint sketch today, in the spirit of the old Tefal ads here in the UK many years ago.

Day 73 - BrandoBot
Because at some point in it's journey to life the drawing *kind of* resembled Marlon Brando. No more.

Day 71 - Del Toro-esque
Wow. Struggled today. Drawings all for shit, so I jumped on zbrush and started pulling around a sphere whilst watching The Walking Dead. Guess it the show must have rubbed off a little, spiced up by some Guillermo Del Toro feeling massaged in. Touched up a little in Photoshop.

Day 70 - Birthday Creature Feature
Yes, it's my birthday today, and I've been told I have a get out of jail free card because of it. But the drawing still eeked out, and here it is; back into creature land today. Quadruped joy. Animating this thing would probably be a bitch. Well - to make it look any good would.

Day 68 - Creepy Kid
Tried a few traditional attempts today, and nothing stuck, so back to sketchbook pro for a quickie before the days over.

Day 67 - Super Ordinary Man
Today's drawing began as an exercise in anatomy, using perspective guidelines (which I never usually do, and transitioned into an over the hill, not so super hero. I also worked in layers in sketchbook pro today, something I usually don't do (that's a lie - I usually use a layer for the line drawing, and another for everything else). It sped things up considerably to be able to split out the line drawing, local colour, darks and highlights.

Day 66 - Chicken Arm
Had a fun time doing this one. If I'd had longer I would have reworked this to push the design more, as right now it's a little vanilla. Another drawing, another opportunity, another day.

Day 65 - Belle
Awful drawings today, and too unfinished/shitty to post, so I'm cheating and posting an older quick sketch. I justify it by saying to myself that the point of doing this exercise is to get me doing some art on a daily basis (outside of work), and I've done that today. The results were just too bad to commit to Internet history, so here's this.

Day 64 - Fun with shapes
Pretty much as the title suggests. Perspective is off and the anatomy is wonky, but she was fun. Kind of a raunchy wingless Tinkerbell now I look at it again ... Jolene - therapise away.

Day 63 - Peace Warrior
Another title pulled with a complete lack of elegance from my arse. He's holding prayer/worry beads - does that count as a contributer to the peaceful part?

Day 62 - Deep Dish
A very quick sketch, arising from the ashes of previous abolished attempts at today's drawing. My wife (also doing this madness of a piece a day for the year - see the link on the right) and I have been sitting and talking whilst sketching, and various topics came up, all of which our friend Mike Murnane would class as 'deep dish' - digging below the superficial. I'm fairly sure that our conversation influenced both of our resulting doodles.

Day 61 - Surly Girl
Back to traditional today. My daughter (6) said of it: 'that's not going to be your drawing of the day is it daddy?'. To which I replied, 'Why - what's wrong with it?'. She replied 'I like the freckles, but I don't like the face, and the mouth and the eyes look angry or sad/upset. You shouldn't be doing an angry picture if you're not upset or angry, right?' . Everyone's a critic.
